AI Assistant
The AI Assistant is a chat widget that can appear on your live site to answer visitor questions using what it knows about your business. When it is enabled, you configure how it looks and what it says from the AI Assistant screen in the portal (under your site's overview).
The assistant is an add-on that Duff Cloud Services turns on per site; it is off by default. When it is not enabled for your site, the configuration screen and the public widget are both unavailable.
Appearance
Give the assistant an identity that matches your brand:
- Display name — what the assistant is called in the widget header.
- Accent color — the color used for the launcher button and header.
- Welcome message — the first message a visitor sees when they open the panel.
- Launcher position — bottom-right or bottom-left of the page.
Behavior and knowledge
The assistant answers using the knowledge you give it, grounded in your site's own content:
- Persona & tone — how the assistant should sound.
- Business facts — hours, service area, policies, and anything it should always know.
- Frequently asked questions — up to 20 curated question-and-answer pairs the assistant can quote directly.
Lead capture
You can optionally offer a lead handoff form inside the chat. When a visitor fills it in, their details flow into your Contact inbox, tagged as AI-assistant leads, so you can follow up.
HIPAA-aware mode
For health-adjacent businesses, a HIPAA-aware mode tightens the assistant's behavior: it gives no medical advice, does not solicit protected health information, offers a name-and-contact-only lead form, and shows a health-information disclaimer. This setting can only be changed by an administrator.
How it reaches your live site
The widget is delivered to your site through the DCS content pipeline and is fail-silent by design: if the assistant is disabled, the backend is unreachable, or a request is blocked, nothing mounts and no error is shown to your visitor — so the assistant can never break a page.
Before the widget will show, three conditions must all be true: the AI assistant feature is enabled for the site, its configuration is turned on, and the platform-level switch is on. Until then, the site's public assistant configuration is not exposed at all.
